Canteen – Digital Stories

Project

In July 2011, lowercase was engaged by Canteen Queensland to deliver a digital storytelling workshop using stop motion animation and vox pop interviews. The workshops were held during the Winter Camp for young people affected by cancer.

Process

The participants split into groups to brain-storm and create characters, themes, props and a story for the animation using a range of art materials. While the animations were being created, two groups at a time went outside to produce short “Vox Pop” style question and answer interviews about some of their previous experiences, and how they felt the camp was going so far.  Throughout the afternoon the groups rotated so they all had an opportunity to record their stories.

Each group produced a very unique animation, and judging by the amount of laughing and bonding happening the participants had a great time.

Outcome

The stop-motion animations and interviews have been used to create a promotional and empowering video for Canteen QLD and their members.
