Active School Travel
The Project:
Staff and students from Balmoral State High School worked with Brisbane City Council to introduce active travel initiatives to encourage more students to walk, cycle, carpool or catch public transport to and from school.
Brisbane City Council wanted to know more about how their Active School Travel Program was working, what still needed to be done and how they could encourage schools, parents, teachers and students to get involved.
Our Process:
Working with students from Balmoral State High School, Human developed several teams responsible for collecting information and producing content for the DVD. We explored the benefits of active travel, asked participants to find solutions to problems with the program and found out why people started actively travelling to school. We did this using creative arts and social inclusion principles.
The Outcome:
In conjunction with us, the staff and students wrote and produced a DVD – ‘Active Travel and Us’ that documented their active travel journey. This DVD has been used as a resource to promote healthy, environmentally friendly, and social travel to and from school.
Brisbane City Council were once again so happy with our process and outcome, they asked us to produce another DVD to promote the Active School Travel Program in Primary Schools.
This is the video produced:
