Crestmead Youth Space

The Project:

Crestmead Youth Space was a peer research and consultation project working with young people 12-25 to creatively express their ideas and develop a shared vision for Crestmead Youth Space.

Human were commissioned by Logan City Council to assist young people to creatively explore and share their ideas, views and opinions on how the Crestmead Youth Space should look, feel and run.

Our Process:

We worked with local schools, libraries, sporting clubs and the PCYC to form a peer research ‘crew’ of young people from the Crestmead and Marsden area. These talented young people learnt skills in video production, interview techniques, animation, visual art and sound design. The crew conducted interviews and facilitated arts workshops to explore and answer the following questions:

1. What is missing in Crestmead for young people?

2. There is a new youth space being built in Crestmead.. what would you like to see happen there?

3. How would you like to be involved?

4. What’s the best thing and worst thing about Crestmead?

The Outcome:

A DVD was produced using interviews and creative arts workshops with young people throughout the Crestmead and Marsden area in April and May of 2009.

The views and ideas expressed informed Council’s planning for future activities and programming of the Crestmead Youth Space.
