Red Alert!
The Project:
Red Alert! is a collection of digital stories made by young people from across Queensland about cyclones, bushfires, severe storms and floods. These digital stories are a collage of young people’s voices, artwork and storytelling. They are about their experiences.
Our Process:
The Red Alert! team traveled around Queensland visiting Tara, Innisfail and the Gold Coast to run workshops with young people and to assist them to recall their experiences and thoughts into a series of digital stories.
In Innisfail young people had stories to tell about Cyclone Larry, which hit the region in 2006. In Tara (South West Qld) young people talked about a bushfire that raged around the town in 2002. And on the Gold Coast young people talked about the images and stories from the multitude of storms and floods that have affected the area over the past 10 years.
The Outcome:
100 young people have contributed to this DVD by sharing their stories, creating artwork, being interviewed, filming, taking photos and developing the themes, stories and digital collages.
Young people from each community participated in art, photography, screen printing, filming, editing and interviewing workshops to share their stories with you.
Red Alert! was coordinated under the Disaster Management Alliance. The Queensland Disaster Management Alliance is a joint initiative between the Local Government Association of Queensland and the Department of Emergency Services in establishing a collaborative approach to disaster management planning, preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery in Queensland.
