FSG/Young Carer’s Project – My Side of the Story
The Project:
During 2010 six young people (10-16yrs) participated in creative arts workshops to share their stories about being young carers. The idea to share their stories was based on a desire to let other young people, who are also carers, know they are not alone and that there is support available.
Our Process:
The group gained skills in a range of creative arts activities such as drawing, photography, audio recording, HD video, digital story telling, music making, stop motion animation and video editing. The collection of stories are diverse in nature, from what young people like to do for leisure and fun, to personal reflections of their caring responsibilities.
The Outcome:
The collection of digital stories has been used as a support resource and an awareness tool on a national level. The young carers involved in the project were extremely happy with their stories and produced an amazing resource that provides support to fellow carers.
